Ballyfin Ireland Receives Prestigious One-MICHELIN-Star Rating for Fine Dining
County Laois, Ireland (February 11, 2025) – Ballyfin, Ireland’s most lavish Regency era country house hotel, is honored to receive One-MICHELIN-Star for its restaurant, announced last evening by The MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland.
It’s only fitting that Ballyfin Demesne, a simply breathtaking hotel that holds Three MICHELIN Keys, should have a Starred restaurant. Chef Richard Picard-Edwards and his brigade have ensured this is the case with a winning combination of outstanding produce and impeccable classical technique. The dishes have an obvious French basis and include many traditional elements, but they never feel outdated, and are executed with such skill that the results are utterly wonderful. Each dish carries superb depth of flavor and textural contrasts, while showcasing Picard-Edwards’ fine craftsmanship –The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team.
Executive Head Chef Richard Picard-Edwards joined Ballyfin in April 2023 with exceptional experience working with MICHELIN-starred properties in the UK. He thrives in being creative and creates menus that showcase the best of every season, with ingredients sourced directly from Ballyfin’s 8-acre walled kitchen gardens. This is where the incredible synergy between Chef Richard and Head Gardener Kayleigh Keenan shines. A short video here.
Ballyfin’s 614 acres of grounds bring a diverse collection of wild foods throughout the year.
Beyond the walls of Ballyfin, Chef Richard works with producers who supply exceptional ingredients. The seeded sourdough comes from a bakery and coffee shop Mueller & O’Connell in nearby Abbeyleix. Travelling out of Laois, the fish is landed and then delivered daily by Glenmar Seafoods. Beef and Venison are sourced from Ireland’s leading distributor of premium quality meat, Higgins Family Butcher, established in 1880. The butter on the tables is from Glenilen Farm in County Cork. Ballyfin produces its own honey.
