Hotel Le Central to Open August 21st in the Alpine Village of Evolène, Switzerland
Restored Historic Hotel and Spa Debuts as Part of the Revitalization of One of Switzerland’s Most Authentic Mountain Villages
Evolène, Switzerland, July 8, 2026 – In a time when travelers are increasingly seeking meaningful connections, cultural authenticity, and destinations untouched by overtourism, the alpine village of Evolène is quietly emerging as one of Switzerland’s most compelling destinations. On August 21, 2026, Le Rucher d’Evolène will debut Hotel Le Central, a beautifully restored seven-room boutique hotel and spa located in the heart of this centuries-old mountain community.
Nestled in the spectacular Val d’Hérens, approximately two hours southeast of Geneva by train or car, Evolène remains one of the few places in the Swiss Alps where traditions, craftsmanship, and village life continue much as they have for generations. Hotel Le Central represents the latest chapter in the village’s ongoing renaissance led by Le Rucher d’Evolène, a privately owned hospitality collection dedicated to restoring historic buildings and preserving the culture of Evolène.
Occupying a prominent place in the center of Evolène since 1896, Hotel Le Central was originally built as a restaurant and Inn. The design team of Christine and Claude Tamaris carefully preserved the existing larch wood, soapstone, dated beams, boards and doors complimenting the original farm heritage with contemporary textiles and accents. The intimate property features seven guest rooms overlooking either the village or the surrounding peaks. At the entrance, a striking corten steel sculpture by renowned artists Paolo Albertelli and Mariagrazia Abbaldo welcomes guests with a modern interpretation of the native larch tree, creating a symbolic connection between nature, art, and place.
“We are excited to introduce Hotel Le Central, the first hotel in our collection. The master plan for this village will reveal itself over the next two years as additional accommodations and dining venues are brought to life to honor this authentic and special destination,” said Steven Jacob, CEO of Le Rucher d’Evolène.
Generations of villagers relied on the region’s pristine glacial spring water to soothe tired muscles and support overall wellbeing. Today, that same mineral-rich Alpine water forms the foundation of the new Olëinna Spa, where restorative massages and facial treatments draw inspiration from local healing traditions. Available by appointment, the spa also features a hot tub and tranquil relaxation area designed to rejuvenate body, mind, and spirit after days spent exploring the mountains.
What distinguishes Evolène is not only its dramatic natural beauty but also its living culture. Local artisans, mountaineers, farmers, and storytellers remain at the center of village life, offering visitors an authentic window into Alpine traditions. The village is home to the last active traditional weaving atelier in the Swiss Alps, where historic looms continue to operate and new generations learn the craft. Guests of Hotel Le Central can engage with local guides and residents who share their skills, folklore, and insider knowledge of the region.
Throughout the year, Evolène offers exceptional outdoor adventures including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, paragliding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice climbing, all set against some of Switzerland’s most spectacular alpine scenery.
With a three-night minimum stay, rates at Hotel Le Central begin at CHF 600 per night and include daily breakfast, an honesty bar, homemade snacks, and 24-hour concierge service, and one locally guided activity or cultural experience for every three nights booked.
